It was reported that French personal media player company Archos has more than 10,000 Android apps available via its AppsLibs store, which it is positioning as an alternative to Android Market targeting the growing tablet device sector. The store supports apps written for terminals with larger displays and screen resolutions, has less onerous hardware requirements than Android Market (for example, devices without GPS or integrated cameras are supported), and also supports products with higher-spec CPUs, graphics hardware, and memory than standard Android smartphones. It also supports PayPal payments, enabling apps to be purchased in 21 currencies. Archos offers a range of its own Android media tablets, including portable devices with screens from 2.8-inches to 10.1-inches, and “home tablet” devices.
