App discovery company Appsfire said it had acquired and re-launched Appstatics, an iOS app intended to enable users to track the rank and progression of a title in Apple’s App Store.

The company said it has been “adding our flavour and intelligence to the app,” which was created by MOS Teknoloji.

In a blog post, Apps Fire said that it has been “looking for this solution for a long time”, noting that rival App Annie is “a great service for the desktop but nearly impossible to use on the mobile”, while others failed to meet its needs for user experience and quality of data.

The company notes that tracking the progress of an app is “difficult and sometimes even painful”, with the need to check each app separately, on each geographic App Store (more than 130 worldwide), for iPhone, iPad, and Mac versions.

It was suggested that Appstatics is “particularly useful when you have special marketing activities which boost your rankings”, such as an app being featured by Apple, or a developer launching a new version. In addition to developers, it was noted it may prove useful for investors, entrepreneurs and marketing or PR agencies, wanting to monitor their own (or a rival’s) progress.
