An Economic Times report claims that India’s long-awaited and oft-delayed 3G auction is expected to be held on 12 February, with 2 September 2010 stipulated as the date for commercial launch. In addition, the report notes that India is to permit only three companies to win 3G licenses in each of the regions (circles) where the licenses are to be offered, going back on expectations that some circles could have four 3G operators. Also, the winner of the 3G licenses will be required to pay a 25 percent deposit at the conclusion of the auction, with the full balance paid within 15 days.
