India’s independent tower company Quippo Telecom Infrastructure (QTIL) has agreed to merge with the spun-off tower arm of Tata Teleservices, reports Telecompaper. QTIL will transfer all its telecoms assets, including 5,000 mobile towers, to Wireless Tata Telecom (WTTL) and invest INR2.4 billion (US$49 million) in the Tata-owned company in return for a 49 percent stake in the merged entity. The merged WTTL will have in total around 18,000 towers and is aiming for over 50,000 towers by 2012.
