Nortel Networks is to sell its GSM and GSM-R (GSM for Railways) businesses by auction, including relevant patents. Bidders are required to submit offers by 5 November, with the auction planned to begin on 9 November. The vendor – which filed for bankruptcy protection in January – has already agreed to sell its CDMA and LTE access assets to Ericsson for US$1.13 billion and its enterprise business to Avaya for US$915 million. Yesterday Nortel also won US court approval to auction its next-generation packet core networks business.
