The patent lawsuit Motorola Mobility has filed against Apple in Germany could cost the former US$2.7 billion, reports Foss Patents. Apple has asked Motorola to put down a compensation bond in case it wins an interim judgement but later loses a final ruling. The request has been rejected as excessive by the court in Mannheim. Apple lost the default ruling against Motorola earlier this month regarding an email-server synchronisation patent allegedly used in its iCloud service.
