The Indian authorities have reportedly given clearance to several mobile operators in the country to buy equipment from overseas vendors, following security concerns over imported equipment – it was not revealed if the vendors involved had ceded to government demands which were previously described by Ericsson as “unjustly onerous”. According to India’s Economic Times, BSNL has been given clearance to buy equipment from “Chinese vendors” and Tata Teleservices is allowed to buy equipment from Huawei and ZTE; Reuters reported that Reliance Communications has also been given the green-light to buy from ZTE.
