ERICSSON BUSINESS INNOVATION FORUM, TOKYO: South Korea’s second-largest operator KT revealed the phenomenal growth of mobile data on its network, claiming that mobile data traffic has increased by a factor of x350 in the last four years alone.

Yung-Ha Ji, head of the company’s network strategy department, said monthly data usage per user is 2.2Gbs for LTE services and 1.2 Gbs for 3G. The operator – which earlier this year also launched LTE-Advanced services – has an LTE subscriber base of 6.7 million and a 3G base of 9.1 million.

Meanwhile its mobile TV service olleh, offering “full HD” content, has seen data usage double, from 3 Gb/s to 6Gb/s per month. And KT also aims to push LTE Broadcast services in future, which is expected to help drive even greater demand for video content over mobile networks.
