Ambitious telecoms group Altice is in talks to sell several of its smaller businesses, following big deals in the French and Portuguese markets.

The company is looking to dispose of its mobile businesses in La Reunion and Mayotte, subject to approval from the French antitrust authorities. The buyer is Telma, a telecoms operator in Madagascar.

Altice did not state the motivation for its plan, although the companies involved are tiny in comparison with its other units. It gained control of the operations through its acquisition of SFR, and in both markets its competitors are the same – Orange and Outremer Telecom (the latter is focused on French overseas territories).

Altice is currently in the process of strengthening its hold on Numericable-SFR, its French integrated operator business. It has also been linked with an acquisition of Bouygues Telecom, to boost its French position.

And it is also in-line to acquire the assets of the former Portugal Telecom.
