Microsoft is now ready to ditch the Nokia and Windows Phone brands and replace them with ‘Microsoft Lumia’, according to The Verge.

The report adds that Nokia France will be the first of many countries in coming weeks that will adopt Microsoft Lumia for its Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts.

As The Verge points out, Microsoft’s decision to replace Nokia with Lumia is not a complete surprise since Nokia’s Windows Phone apps have recently been rebranded to Lumia.

The Nokia brand will not entirely go away, of course, as the Finnish firm still has a play in mapping and infrastructure.

One uncertainty is how Microsoft will handle future branding of Windows Phone. One possibility that’s been mentioned is that the Windows Phone logo is replaced with the Windows logo used for desktops and tablets (as the OS for device types is increasingly aligned).
