Microsoft refreshes Nokia 105 line

03 JUN 2015

Microsoft announced a new incarnation of the Nokia 105 handset, the lowest price device in its mass-market range, stating that the original had sold “more than 80 million units to date, introducing people from across the globe to mobile experiences”.

The update expands the support for contacts (up to 2,000); offers enhanced audio for greater call clarity; delivers an increased talk time (up to 15 hours) and standby (up to 35 days) and comes with a “refreshed sleek, durable, versatile design, available in three colours – cyan, white and black”.

It also includes two preloaded games – Snake Xenzia and Bubble Bash 2.

While the device – priced at $20 before taxes and subsidies – is clearly targeted at emerging markets, Nokia also said that its low price and long battery life make it “an ideal companion device for existing smartphone users or people on their travels”.

The new Nokia 105 will be available in (2G-only) single and dual-SIM versions. It will begin rolling out in “select” markets in June 2015.
