Google is putting pressure on app and game developers to include its Google Wallet payment service, according to Reuters.

Several developers have reportedly been warned over the past few months that their apps would be removed from Android Market (now Google Play) if they continued to use other payment methods, such as PayPal, Zong and Boku.

However, Google told the BBC that it has always made developers use Google Wallet through its app distribution agreements. The company did not comment on whether it is now enforcing this policy more rigorously.

Although Google Wallet takes a larger cut per transaction than other payment methods, developers believe Google is aiming to simplify consumer payments to boost the number of apps bought and offset the higher costs.

Chief executive of cross promotion app network Hugo Troche told Reuters that the move would reduce the friction of purchases made in Android apps, making users more valuable.

However, Reuters also suggested the move appears to be Google promoting its own payment platform, with developers saying Apple’s iOS generates higher conversion rates for apps than Android largely due to developers only being able to use its in-house payment platform.
