Troubled location search company Poynt said that it has passed the 10 million user mark on the Android platform, as it released a “new and improved” version of its app optimised for Android 4.0.

Andrew Osis, CEO of the company, said: “with a 300 percent increase in our Android user base year-over-year, Android is our fastest growing and most popular device platform”.

Features of the updated Android app include a “bold new look”, along with technical improvements and enhancements to the user interface, “inspired in part by user feedback from the Poynt Android Beta”, which was launched in July 2012.

New features include improved battery and network performance, a redesigned tiled dashboard and weather display.

The launch follows the “reboot of Poynt for iPhone” during September 2012. This also features a redesigned user interface and additional features.

At this time, Osis said that the company’s iPhone user base is growing by 123 percent year-on-year.

In recent weeks, point has been renegotiating with its creditors, operating under Creditor Protection granted by the Canadian courts.

It has previously said that this enables it to continue operations as normal, but cannot engage in transactions “outside the ordinary course of business”.

At 30 June 2012, it owed CA$7.1 million more than it held in cash or had accounts due.

During the quarter to this date, it reported a net loss of CA$6.14 million, compared with a prior-year loss of CA$3.65 million, on revenue of CA$463,400, down from CA$574,000.
