Intel is reported to be prepping the launch of its AppUp app store in China next year. AppUp offers software for tablets, netbooks, and other mobile terminals using Intel’s Linux-based next generation mobile Internet platform MeeGo. Intel is believed to have already partnered with 4,800 Chinese software firms to develop applications for the store.

In September Intel announced the commercial launch of its netbook application store for consumers, following a beta launch last January. At launch the AppUp centre promised “free and paid apps for entertainment, social networking, gaming and productivity, optimised for a netbook’s mobility and screen size.” The launch was marked by the availability of Adobe AIR applications (which saw 100 such apps available by the end of September), as well as apps from companies such as Accuweather, Barnes & Noble, Funkitron, Gibson Guitars, Konami and Lifetime. Intel has also promoted the Intel AppUp Developer Program.
