GetJar is to be the launch partner for ZeptoLab’s Cut the Rope for Android, having exclusive rights to the title for its first week of availability. The game will be offered to customers in a free, ad-supported version, and will be “distributed widely on additional app stores following the GetJar exclusive.” Cut the Rope has been a number-one game on Apple’s App Store in its iOS version, and has won several awards.

GetJar has previously offered apps on an exclusive basis at launch, including (most notably) Rovio’s Angry Birds. According to Giga OM, GetJar beat Amazon to secure the deal – with Amazon having won several other high profile app launches in recent months, including Angry Birds Rio and numerous titles from PopCap.  In a statement, GetJar said that “unlike other app stores, the company offers developers a global consumer audience that is eager for free, hot games and other applications.”

According to GigaOM, GetJar is “pulling out the stops” in offering the title, with prominent placement on the site and other promotional activities in the pipeline. It was noted that these exclusive launches provide a good way for stores to generate traffic. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Efim Voinov, CTO at ZeptoLab, said: “we have worked diligently to bring the same level of quality gameplay and fun to Android users that iOS users have been enjoying over the past year. We are excited to partner with GetJar to offer our fans a free version of the game during its first week on the Android platform and we look forward to the response from this new audience.”
