Newswires today report that China Mobile – the world’s largest mobile operator by subscribers – has ended talks to sell Apple’s iPhone in China, citing an inability for both parties to agree on revenue-sharing terms. Speculation surrounding a potential deal has been ongoing since November last year. China Mobile, which already has an agreement to sell Research in Motion’s Blackberry handsets in China, added over 15 million subscribers in the last quarter according to Wireless Intelligence, and now has a total customer base of 365,003,694.

Apple launched the iPhone in the U.S. in June last year and has since launched the device in France, Germany and the U.K. The company has said it will make the device available in Asia this year but is yet to announce further plans. In recent months Telstra of Australia and South Korea’s KT Freetel have said they are also in talks with Apple on bringing the iPhone to their countries.
