Cellular News notes that mobile satellite services provider Iridium has placed an order for 81 new spacecraft to upgrade its global network. Specifically, the company announced the execution of a fixed price contract with Thales Alenia Space, a joint company between Thales (67 percent) and Finmeccanica (33 percent), for the design and construction of satellites for the Iridium NEXT constellation.
