Jon Fredrik Baksaas, president and CEO of Telenor, used his keynote presentation at the recent GSMA Mobile Asia Congress to claim that the evolution of mobile handsets has changed the way that operators have to do business. "We are used to in the feature phone era a pretty simple business model, in the sense that at the core of what we are doing is the connectivity side,” said Baksaas. “We had a service platform, we had the device, and we had the physical distribution. With smartphones, the ecosystem basically changed dramatically once more, into a more complicated set of building blocks, and again these building blocks need to be stitched together in such a way that they bring seamless services to the end user.”
