The CEO of mobile core networking giant Juniper sees mobile Internet and cloud computing as the two biggest sectors driving his business today.

In an exclusive interview with Mobile World Live, Kevin Johnson comments: “Certainly on the mobile Internet side the explosion of smartphones and tablets is generating huge volumes of network traffic and our customers have to figure out how to efficiently deal with that. And those mobile devices are accessing services and content from these big cloud data centres. And so cloud computing and mobile Internet are the big drivers of growth for us.”

Johnson says that Juniper’s business is being strengthened by “traffic per user growing much faster than revenue per user,” leading operators to demand ever more sophisticated products from network vendors to help manage this huge increase in data and reduce the cost of supporting this traffic.

Elsewhere in the interview Johnson provides his thoughts on the current glut of patent battles dominating industry headlines, and explains why he believes the mobile infrastructure market will continue to see vendor consolidation.
