VIDEO INTERVIEW: Markets where contactless card payments are the norm will be the first to transfer the experience onto mobile. So said Niki Manby, Visa’s head of emerging products for Asia Pacific, Central Europe, Middle East and Africa, in a recent interview with Mobile World Live.

And when asked about likely markets to move first in the Asia-Pacific region, she highlighted Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

In places where small transit payments are popular via the mobile phone – such as Japan – Manby said they also provide an ideal environment for mobile payments to flourish.

“We believe that the transit applications that we see in Asia Pacific today will be a real springboard for larger transactions that consumers want to make with more general-purpose retailers,” she said.
