Russian operator Vimpelcom may pull out of the bid for a 51 percent stake in Serbia’s state-controlled Telekom Srbija if its planned merger with Wind Telecom goes ahead, according to Russia’s Interfax news agency. “If the deal goes through, we will stop expanding geographically for some time, as we will have to digest what has happened,” said VimpelCom Chief Executive Alexander Izosimov, quoted by Interfax. It follows the news that France Telecom has dropped out of the contest.
