Coffee giant Starbucks wants to add its mobile order & pay feature to its Android-based payment app and spread it to the UK and Canada, all before the end of 2015.
The company is already aiming for a US-wide rollout of mobile order & pay, which enables users to order their coffee remotely and then collect in-store, by year-end.
The feature is currently only available on Starbucks’ iOS-based app.
According to Adam Brotman (pictured), the company’s chief digital officer, positive feedback has encouraged a speedier deployment.
“In terms of the rollout plans and what we are learning, we are very pleased with how this has started,” he said, in answer to an analyst question on last week’s Q2 investors’ call.
Starbucks introduced mobile order and pay to 150 stores in Portland, Oregon, last December. Since then, it has spread the feature to more than 600 stores in the Pacific Northwest.
“In fact, Seattle started out even quicker than Portland and as we roll it into more urban environments that bodes really well and how this is going to continue to drive transactions and be a great thing for our customers,” added Brotman.
He added in-store employees are happy with the new feature. “So we are excited to accelerate that rollout as you mentioned in the second half of the year.”
In addition, the plan is to add the feature to the Android app, as well as offering it to customers in the UK and Canada, all before the end of the year.
The company has 16 million active users of its iOS and Android apps in the US, which enables users to pay in store and collect loyalty points.
