US mobile operator Sprint plans to launch its own NFC-based mobile wallet, according to NFC Times. The launch could happen as early as this summer, the report says. Sprint currently offers Google Wallet, the only US operator that does, which makes it a key partner for Google. The three other leading mobile operators in the US have formed their own mobile wallet venture called Isis.

Sprint’s proposed wallet, which is called Touch, would enable the US operator to work with banks and other service providers who want a place in it. As a distributor of Google Wallet, Sprint has no such relationships.

It is unclear whether Sprint would continue to support Google Wallet “although it seems unlikely that it could support both wallets on the same NFC phones”, says the report, since each wallet would control the secure element on the handset.
