Osama Bedier (pictured), who stepped down as the head of Google Wallet last year, has joined the board of directors of WePay, a payments firm.

WePay, which enables online marketplaces, crowdfunding platforms and small business software to accept credit card payments, has not revealed Bedier’s job title as a board member.

The company’s blog described Bedier as “the perfect fit to help us accelerate development of WePay’s API for platforms”.

In addition to its new employee’s experience, another positive for the startup is its current funding levels. It has raised more than $30 million since it kicked off in 2009.

Previously, Bedier was PayPal’s vice president of platform, mobile and new ventures. His responsibilities included overseeing its global payments platform. After moving to Google, he was vice president of wallet & payments.

Bedier’s move to Google sparked a lawsuit from his former employer. His next move brings him into competition with PayPal, as well as newcomers such as Stripe.

Among its past achievements, WePay supplied the fundraising mechanism for the Occupy Wall Street movement.
