Everything Everywhere and MasterCard have signed an agreement to develop mobile payment services, the latest such alliance in the patchwork of deals already struck between credit card companies and mobile operators around Europe.

The exclusive, five-year partnership aims to develop a number of new services and mentions one of the first will be a pre-paid co-branded virtual card for making payments via NFC smartphones. No launch date was given for this service.

Other services will include P2P money transfer, loyalty rewards and the ability for consumers to have the same experience whether they are making a purchase in-store, online or using a mobile device.

Also the partners say they will join the crowd of companies offering a dongle to small businesses so they can accept payments on their mobile devices, a market popularised in the US by Square. More details about this particular service will be announced later in 2012, they say.

MasterCard already struck an agreement in early July with Deutsche Telekom, one of the two owners with Orange of Everything Everywhere. That agreement covers Deutsche Telekom’s European operations excluding the UK joint venture.

Separately the credit card firm works with Orange in the UK on its QuickTap service for NFC-based mobile payments. Earlier this year Orange announced an agreement with Visa, a MasterCard rival, to develop a pre-paid payment service but that particular partnership is targeted at the developing world and not Europe.

This latest agreement between Everything Everywhere and MasterCard is exclusive, presumably meaning the credit card firm will not work with Vodafone, Telefonica O2 or Three in the UK. In fact, Vodafone is already partnering with rival Visa so would be out of bounds. In contrast, MasterCard’s recent deal with Deutsche Telekom was non-exclusive, meaning it might announce additional partners in Germany and other European markets.
