Russian telecoms investment company Altimo is set to call for the removal of Colin Williams as chairman of Turkcell, in the latest round of an ownership battle concerning the operator. The Financial Times reports that the intention is to “break the stranglehold” of Mehmet Emin Karamehmet, Turkcell’s founder, whose Cukurova Holding group owns 13 percent of Turkcell but controls the business through a “complex structure.” Last month, TeliaSonera, another shareholder in Turkcell, launched a legal action against Williams, alleging that he has failed to fulfil his role as an independent board member.
