Nokia has made its biggest commitment yet to NFC by saying that all future smartphones will come with NFC.

Nokia has long been a pioneer in NFC, having launched a shell for the 3220 (pictured) in 2004. It had been thought that the decision not to put the 6126 clamshell indicated a lack of interest in the area.

The announcement was made by Noika’s number 2, Anssi Vanjoki at the Mobey Forum’s 10th anniversary meeting in Helsinki. The new smartphones will support multiple business models and are likely to include Single Wire Protocol (SWP) and other secure element formats such as MicroSD cards and, perhaps, an embedded secure element too. As with the existing Nokia products an SDK will be available.
