Angry Birds maker Rovio Entertainment has acquired Futuremark Games Studio, the gaming division of benchmarking software developer Futuremark.

“Rovio’s success is founded on the excellence of our team, and Futuremark Games Studio is going to be a superb addition,” said Rovio Entertainment CEO Mikael Hed.

Futuremark Games Studio was formed in 2008, and created titles including Shattered Horizon, Hungribles and Unstoppable Gorg across desktop and mobile platforms.

Gamasutra reports that while the team will now be integrated with Rovio, the rights for the previously published titles remain with the former owner.

Futuremark produces the 3DMark professional grade benchmark, the newest version of which will provide gaming performance comparison across operating systems and mobile devices, when launched later in the year.

Rovio acquired Kombo Animation Studio in summer 2011 and said it will continue to seek out the “world’s best talent” to join its team as it continues to expand “in entertainment, publishing, animation and retail.”

Rovio last week launched Angry Birds Space on iOS, Android, Mac and PC along with associated merchandise. The game hit top spot for iOS on 104 countries in its first day of release and was downloaded more than 10 million times in its first three days of release, according to a company tweet.
