MoboTap, developer of the Dolphin Browser for Android, said that it had received US$10 million in Series A funding, which will be used “for rapid product development for Dolphin and expansion into new market segments.” The company said that in less than 15 months, the browser has gained more than eight million users worldwide, by “allowing them to intuitively create their very own web browsing experience on the Android platform.”

In a statement, it was said that the “vast majority” of Dolphin users are in the US, and that the intention is to drive growth both in this market and China. The browser has also been updated to support add-ons, to enable users to customise the app. Examples of the 50 add-ons “and counting” available include Google Translate, password managers, YouTube search and ad blockers.

The current funding round was led by Sequoia Capital, with Matrix Partners also participating.
