Taiwanese business publication DigiTimes reports that local operator Chunghwa Telecom has partnered with China Unicom in a mobile apps alliance. The accord will see content from Chunghwa sold via Unicom’s Wo Store, while content from Unicom will be sold via Chunghwa’s Hami Apps portal. Initially, 100 apps from Hami Apps will be made available via Wo Store, although this is expected to be increased to “at least 1,200” by the end of 2011. More than 300 free apps from Wo Store will be offered via Hami Apps.

It was previously reported that Unicom and Chunghwa were holding apps talks during 2010, building on a relationship centred on ebooks. The companies are not the only ones from the region working on cross-border apps: China Mobile has a partnership in place with South Korea’s SK Telecom, with SK in particular keen to use its apps portfolio as a way to bolster its international position.
