Australian developer ASiQ announced what it described as “the world’s most expensive mobile phone app,” priced at AUD12,500 (US$12,300), which is intended to enable private jet owners to use mobile phones to make in-flight phone calls. The app uses a device’s Bluetooth radio to connect to an “inexpensive satellite link” which the majority of corporate jets already have, replacing a dedicated on-board phone system “without the US$500K price tag, roaming charges or additional 85Kg of weight.” It is initially available for BlackBerry and Symbian devices, with Android to follow “shortly after,” and for the iPhone, which as a “very restricted Bluetooth capability,” an additional configuration fee also applies.
