API platform provider Apigee secured $35 million in funding as it looks to expand its technology platform and grow its global sales and marketing functions.
Apigee helps businesses build mobile capabilities using apps, data and APIs. Its products include the Apigee Enterprise platform, which gives developers the ability to integrate business systems with mobile apps via APIs. It also offers the Apigee API Exchange interoperability platform and analytics via Apigee Insights.
“Apigee helps companies of all sizes deliver and manage the core elements of a connected mobile world: apps, data and APIs. We are in a market sweet spot, and this additional funding will help us quickly expand our product portfolio and international sales and marketing,” said Chet Kapoor, the company’s CEO.
The company partnered with Swisscom in April to allow the Swiss operator to use its API platform to create “powerful apps built with Swisscom’s key network-based services”.
Apigee also works with AT&T, KT Corp, Telefonica and Vodafone, while 20 per cent of the Fortune 100 and more than 10 per cent of Global 100 companies now use its technology.
The funding includes new investment from technology consultancy Accenture and a fund managed by BlackRock Inc. Previous Apigee investors Bay Partners, Focus Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, SAP Ventures and Third Point Ventures also took part.
“Digital businesses are powered by APIs and Apigee’s platform helps companies turn their digital assets into an engine for ongoing innovation and growth,” notes Jin Lee, senior managing director at Accenture Mobility.
