Angry Birds developer Rovio has announced that the game has surpassed 500 million downloads, making it one of the most downloaded games in the history of gaming. Mobile users have spent a total of more than 200,000 years playing Angry Birds, with 300 million minutes of playing time per day. This equates to 400 billion birds being launched and 266 billion levels of the game played.

Angry Birds is available on major smartphone platforms, the Chrome web browser, PC and Mac. The company recently announced the game is coming to Nokia’s Series 40 platform, which is widely used in developing markets.

"This is a fantastic landmark achievement for us, and we’re extremely delighted to see such an incredible amount of people enjoying our games," said Rovio CEO Mikael Hed.

The Finnish company has recently expanded its business into merchandise including t-shirts, soft toys and, most recently, a cook book, while the first official Angry Birds store will soon open in Helsinki. It has shipped more than 10 million Angry Birds soft toys.
