Rovio has announced that it has seen more than one billion downloads of its Angry Birds game.

The company also confirmed that it has acquired the IP for Casey's Contraptions, a game developed by Snappy Touch and Mystery Coconut. Gamasutra reports that the iPad game – potentially a follow-up to Angry Birds – has been removed from the App Store as Rovio redevelops it for a relaunch later in the summer on both iOS and Android.

Rovio CEO Mikael Hed revealed that the new version of the game will be called Amazing Alex when it emerges, in an interview on Finnish television, reports Develop.

To celebrate the one billion download milestone, Rovio is giving fans the chance to win a limited-edition Mighty Eagle ring if they tweet or post a comment on the company blog with the #oneofthebillion hashtag.

Rovio has previously said it is aiming to hit one billion ‘fans’ as it continues to expand its presence around the world.

Rovio recently reported pre-tax earnings of EUR48 million for 2011, on revenue of EUR75.4 million. The company described the numbers as “very positive.”
