The NFC Forum has published a new specification called the Simple NDEF Exchange Protocol, or SNEP, which it says eliminates the difference between reader-writer and peer-to-peer (P2P) modes and should boost global interoperability of NFC applications. SNEP is an application-level protocol which extends the forum’s NFC Data Exchange Format (NDEF) to P2P usage. Previously NDEF was only used for NFC tags in reader/writer mode. Potential SNEP use cases include sending electronic business cards or downloading a movie poster on a phone and then transferring the image at home to a TV.
