Mollen Immunization Clinics, which runs clinics across the US in locations such as Wal-Mart stores, is working with Verizon Wireless and Google so that its nurses can determine what immunisations are needed for individual patients, check insurance eligibility, process payments, submit claims, track inventories and report on patient volumes in real time.

The company has equipped over 4,000 of its clinics with Google Chromebooks linked to Verizon Wireless’ mobile network. The deployment will be used by more than 25,000 of Mollen’s nurses. The company says the new set-up operates within HIPAA, the US regulation that maintains patient privacy by restricting how their data is shared over communications networks.  In fact, Mollen says the new system will cut more than 20 million pieces of paper from its business.
