Struggling Twitter’s chief operating officer Adam Bain is leaving the company, with current CFO Anthony Noto set to take on the role.

Twitter said in a statement it would begin the search for a new finance chief, while Noto is handed the task of managing the company’s live content business as well as taking on responsibility for the company’s revenue generating activities, including global advertising sales, and data revenue product.

Bain, meanwhile, leaves to explore opportunities outside of the company after joining in 2010.

He was responsible for building the company’s business model, according to Bloomberg, and leaves as Twitter looks to address the problems it has with generating revenue, as well as growing its user base.

It hired banks to explore a sale of the company in September, but potential bids from Walt Disney, Salesforce and Alphabet’s Google did not materialise.

The company then said it would cut 9 per cent of its staff, with the axe failing on sales and marketing, areas that the COO was in charge of.

“The past six years have been incredible and I’m inspired by what Twitter has become and what it will be in the future,” added Bain in a statement.
