A plan for broadcast company Grupo Televisa to acquire 50 percent of Mexican operator Iusacell for US$1.6 billion has been rejected by Mexico’s antitrust body following a nine month review, reports Mexican newspaper El Universal. The companies will be able to request a review of the decision. Bloomberg reported last week that a failure of the deal could put Iusacell’s future at risk. Francisco Borrego, chief legal counsel for billionaire Ricardo Salinas who controls Iusacell, said the operator could disappear without the investment.
