Mimvi, which describes itself as “the world’s largest pure-play search, discovery and recommendation engine for mobile apps,” has announced the creation of its own app developer partner network, which includes more than 60 companies. In a statement, Kasian Franks, founder and CEO of the company, says: “We are mindful of how challenging it is for developers to get their apps noticed in this marketplace and, in turn, generate meaningful revenue. Engaging with development companies is a critical component of our business strategy.” The company says that its partnerships include developers in the US, the UK and India, and will include the development of “mobile apps, mobile web apps and apps for Google TV, Apple TV, Sony Internet TV, and Samsung Smart TV.”

Mimvi’s argument is that with estimates that by 2015, users will consume more than 25 billion mobile apps annually, there will be “hundreds of billions of searches conducted through its unified search platform.” The company says that there are several ways for developers to engage with it, including white-labelling its search and recommendation technology or creating a paid-search advertising package for apps. It also says that it is “nimble enough to tailor solutions that best meet developers’ needs on a case-by-case basis and help them build their companies in a mutually beneficial manner.” Mimvi intends to generate revenue through multiple income streams, including mobile transactions, paid searches, licensing and revenue share deals, keyword marketplaces and advertising.

In October 2010, Mimvi announced the patent submission for its “best-in-class mobile app search and recommendation technology,” which it says will form the backbone of its intellectual property strategy. It says that aside from providing customers with “meaningful” recommendations, its technology is able to assess the performance of a mobile app across other dimensions, including: security, power, storage and bandwidth, which it says will be “enormously valuable to key stakeholders across the mobile ecosystem, from developers through to carriers and OEMs worldwide.”
