UK Minister for Trade & Industry, Lord Mervyn Davies, and the BBC’s Roger Mosey yesterday called for partnerships and co-operation to make London 2012 the “digital Olympics.” Discussing the delivery of mobility, communications and content at major sporting events, Lord Davies revealed that the use of mobiles for ticketing and cashless payments are already being explored. “I see huge opportunities for us around the Olympics,” he said, and called for further co-operation between the mobile industry, Olympic movement and London 2012 organisers.

Roger Mosey, BBC director, London 2012, explained, “The Olympics in London 2012 can be the defining moment for the digital age. We want that spectacle to be available whenever and wherever people want to enjoy it; on every platform, on TV, radio, online on the big screens and on the small screens too.” For 2012, the BBC is very open to all ideas from mobile companies. “We can’t achieve innovation without partnership,” said Mosey. “I simply can’t tell you what the most exciting thing in our London 2012 coverage will be – because it probably isn’t yet fully developed.”
