The Economic Times said that India’s defence forces have “again” rejected requests to release spectrum suitable for 3G CDMA operations, preventing the country’s government from holding an auction, with the military also looking to hold on to 2G spectrum it was set to vacate.  The dispute centres on 1900MHz frequencies, which would be suitable for 3G CDMA services alongside the currently used 800MHz band. It was noted that two country’s CDMA operators, Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices, also have GSM operations and hold spectrum for WCDMA 3G networks, which could be used to meet growing customer demand.
