Mobile ticketing developer Masabi has announced the completion of a US$4 million Series B funding round with m8 Capital, the mobile technology venture capital fund. Masabi’s mTicketing apps claim to allow consumers to buy and display rail tickets on almost any mobile handset – not just smartphones – and are currently live with six UK rail brands including thetrainline.com, Virgin Trains, Cross Country Trains, First TransPennine Express, First Hull Trains and Chiltern Railways.

Masabi said the funding will be used to support further deployments with multiple rail companies in the UK, and for the development of new service features, including NFC technology. The cash will also help facilitate expansion into new markets, particularly the US, where the company claims to be seeing strong interest.

It previously raised US$2 million in a Series A funding round from m8 Capital in September 2010. Masabi is based in London and has 30 employees.
