A range of interviewees explore the sometimes strained relationship between mobile operators and banks in a new feature video from Mobile Money Live. They try to answer the question of whether the two sides can work together. Many of those in the video argue operators and financial institutions bring unique skills to the mobile money market and so have a vested interest in finding a way to co-operate.

Banks offer a range of services that cannot be reproduced by mobile operators, and vice versa. Both need to make a common goal of convincing consumers to adopt mobile money services. “When they [operators and banks] start working more closely then it’ll be better for the consumer and it’ll drive the adoption of these services,” says Adam Kerr, Ericsson’s head of consumer services.
