Drchrono, the US firm which launched an EHR service for the iPad, has added a new service that enables doctors and their staff to handle payments from patients using the popular card reader offered by Square. The card reader plugs into the audio jack of an iPhone or iPod touch so enabling medical staff in the US to process credit card payments from patients.

In addition, Drchrono has launched real-time patient health insurance eligibility checks to its mobile platform which currently supports the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The app enables medical staff to check a patient’s insurance cover rapidly rather than having to call insurance companies to obtain the same information.
