South Korea’s LG Display said Thursday it will invest about KRW618 billion (US$512 million) to expand production of mobile displays used in smartphones and tablet PCs to meet robust demand. According to a Dow Jones Newswires report, the company is spending funds to build a so-called 4.5 generation production line that can produce small panels used in mobile phones and tablet computers. Meanwhile the Wall Street Journal reports today that the company’s chief executive said the vendor isn’t currently able to supply all of the flat-panel orders it receives from Apple for its iPad tablet computer.
