Foursquare in search talks with major Internet players

20 JUL 2010

Location-based social networking service Foursquare is in talks with Google, Microsoft and Yahoo regarding search partnerships, according to a Telegraph report. “Our data generates hugely interesting trends which would enrich search,” Dennis Crowley, Foursquare’s co-founder, told the publication. “We can anonymise data and use it to show venues which are trending at that moment. Twitter helped the world and the search engines know what people are talking about. Foursquare would allow people to search for the types of place people are going to – and where is trending – not what.”

The location-based social network signed up its two millionth member last week, three months after acquiring its first million users. According to the Telegraph report. Foursquare is now valued at US$95 million, after a recent US$20 million cash investment led by the major Silicon Valley venture capital company, Andreessen Horowitz.
