Zawya Dow Jones reports that Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is set to pay the country’s mobile operators and internet service providers a total of EGP100 million (US$16.8 million) in compensation, following disruption caused during this year’s civil unrest. It was noted that the country’s biggest operator, Mobinil, had put the cost of the disruption at EGP80 million–EGP100 million, leading to one observer describing the compensation as “quite low.” It has not been stated how the sum will be split between the operators.
