In July, I posted a discussion about government mandated pre-pay registration and how mobile money could be a conduit for incentivising consumers to do so. In response I received a great post about Mexico and how people responded through the courts to stop the government demanding compulsory SIM registration.

Well it seems the pre-pay registration movement is gaining popularity with Fiji the latest market to come to my attention. Once again mobile money has been proffered as a benefit to registration with Matt Davey, Digicel CEO calling on consumers to register for mobile money services at the same time. This is based on the vast overlap in regulatory requirements for basic SIM registration and registration for mobile money services. It will be interesting to see if this leads to an increase in mobile money users.
