The first health devices based on the latest version Bluetooth 4.0 of the short-range wireless technology are starting to be released. A company called Wahoo announced that its BlueHR heart monitor will be available in January for US$80. GigaOm Pro points out that one of the advantages of the latest version of Bluetooth is that the new device will work natively with a smartphone, so removing the need for any additional hardware to support the wireless connection.  On the downside, the only handset currently on the market which supports Bluetooth 4.0 is Apple’s iPhone 4S (pictured) although others are likely to follow.
