PRESS RELEASE: During MWC Barcelona 2024, Huawei’s 5G-A GigaGreen System solution was honored with GTI’s “Innovative Breakthrough in Mobile Technology Award” in recognition of Huawei’s noteworthy contributions to the industry and pioneering green solutions. The 5G-A GigaGreen System solution optimizes the bit energy efficiency on operator networks under all loads and in all scenarios, which maximizes energy savings and delivers a premium user experience.

The volume of traffic is growing at an unprecedented rate, and network evolution tends to involve more RATs, frequency bands, and sites. To tackle the challenges posed by soaring traffic, Huawei has launched the GigaGreen System, aiming to deliver exceptional network experience and maximum energy efficiency, ultimately helping operators achieve the “0 Bit 0 Watt” goal. Offering outstanding performance, simplified deployment, and optimal energy efficiency, GigaGreen streamlines the evolution path for operators from 5G to 5.5G, establishing itself as a flagship product of 5.5G. The GigaGreen System comprises three parts:

  • Green base stations: These reduce RF power consumption by up to 30%. The entire series of RF modules and BBUs supports “0 Bit 0 Watt”, ensuring zero power consumption when there is no data traffic. When there is data traffic, the power consumption is dynamically adjusted based on service requirements to maximize energy savings without compromising network KPIs and user experiences.
  • Green antennas: Huawei’s proprietary technologies, such as SDIF and Meta Lens, are used to minimize feed loss inside the antennas as well as space radiation loss, reducing energy consumption by more than 20% across the entire network. The advanced laser welding technique prevents water and air pollution during antenna manufacturing, so the entire lifecycle of the antennas is as sustainable as possible.
  • Green networks: These enable millisecond-level shutdown in the time, frequency, space, and power domains. This advanced capability can work with AI to facilitate long-term prediction and multi-objective decision-making, which can increase energy savings by 35% across the entire network without compromising user experiences.

Solari Yu, Vice President of Huawei’s Wireless Network Product Line, said, “The GTI award shows that the industry recognizes the value of Huawei’s wireless energy-saving technologies. We are committed to fulfilling customer needs, developing innovative technologies, and advancing networks to achieve the ‘0 Bit 0 Watt’ goal. Our innovations will empower operators to construct energy-efficient 5G networks that deliver exceptional performance.”
